Description
The project concerns the implementation of Required Navigation Performance (RNP) Approaches (Lateral Navigation/Vertical Navigation (LNAV/VNAV) and Localiser Performance with Vertical guidance (LPV) minima) on the instrument runway ends of Ostend Airport (2), Liège Airport (4) and Charleroi Airport (2).
This project is limited to the development of the procedures, not involving the implementation of any technical infrastructure to support it, e.g. monitoring of GNSS or implementation of GBAS.
Objectives
Implement Required Navigation Performance (RNP) Approaches (Lateral Navigation/Vertical Navigation (LNAV/VNAV) and Localiser Performance with Vertical guidance (LPV) minima) on the instrument runway ends of Ostend Airport (2), Liège Airport (4) and Charleroi Airport (2).
Achieve compliancy with ICAO Resolution AR37.11, EC Part-AUR , Subpart PBN and Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) No 716/2014 Annex 1.
Expected Performance Benefits
Safety | Positive impact | 1. Reducing Controlled Flight Into Terrain (CFIT) rate |
Capacity | Positive impact | 2. Improved airport accessibility and cost effectiveness, maintaining runway throughput |
Flight efficiency | Positive impact | 3. Reducing fuel cost and flight time 4. Reducing the missed approach rate due to procedures allowing lower minima |
Flexibility | Positive impact | 5. Better backup for Instrument Landing System (ILS) approach will be provided by using LPV approach |
Interoperability | Positive impact | 6. Satellite Based Augmentation Systems (SBAS) allow a seamless global world-wide navigation service |
