A GAMET area forecast is an area forecast in abbreviated plain language for low-level flights (up to flight level 100) for a specified flight information region (FIR) or a sub-area thereof. It contains information on en-route weather phenomena expected to be hazardous to low-level flights (e.g. strong wind, low visibility, thunderstorms, significant clouds, icing and turbulence) as well as additional information required by low-level flights (synoptic situation, surface wind, upper-air wind, upper-air temperature, visibility, cloud, freezing level and lowest QNH). AIRMETs are warnings in abbreviated plain language for a specified flight information region (FIR) or a sub-area thereof. It gives a concise description concerning the occurrence and/or expected occurrence of strong wind, low visibility, thunderstorms, significant clouds, moderate icing and moderate turbulence, which are not included in the last issued GAMET area forecast and which may affect the safety of low-level aircraft operations (up to flight level 100). Belgocontrol issues AIRMET warnings for the Brussels FIR.
