Technician Data Communication

The function
 

As Data Communications Technician you will ensure aviation safety by maintaining, optimizing and installing the systems within the domain of Networks, Operational IT and Data Comm and by monitoring all Communication, Navigation & Surveillance/Air Traffic Management/Meteorology systems in the Technical Watch Office.  You will report directly to the person in charge of the Specialised Maintenance Cell in that respect.  You will perform a  wide and varied range of duties:

  1. carrying out preventive maintenance works on the systems:
  • adjusting and maintaining the systems;
  • ensuring a specialized support at the request of multi-domain technicians;
  • verifying whether the systems are in compliance with the standards imposed (manufacturer, ICAO, Eurocontrol,…).

 

  1. carrying out corrective maintenance works on the systems:
  • surveying the systems' functioning based on monitoring data;
  • contributing to the analysis and the solution to any functional problems the systems may have, in collaboration with the Support CNS/ATM/MET systems and the person in charge;
  • repairing and adjusting the systems;
  • ensuring a specialized support at the request of multi-domain technicians;
  • surveying the interoperability of the series of systems;
  • verifying whether the systems are in compliance with the standards imposed (manufacturer, ICAO, Eurocontrol,…).

 

  1. participating in optimizing the existing systems and installing new ones:
  • proposing optimizations for existing systems;
  • applying modifications to systems;
  • being involved in projects regarding new systems in collaboration with the CNS/ATM/MET systems Project Manager and within the own area of expertise;
  • being involved in the installation of new systems.

 

  1. monitoring all CNS/ATM/MET systems in the Technical Watch Office in order to guarantee their optimal functioning:
  • serve as a central point of contact for all connected customers and systems;
  • surveying the equipment;
  • locating and identifying anomalies;
  • coordinating the interventions for corrective maintenance depending on the located anomalies and carrying out the interventions on the systems within the own area of expertise;
  • following up the actions undertaken and informing the actors involved of the systems' status;
  • maintaining a reliable database of the events (trouble-ticketing, electronic logbook).

 

Your profile
 
  • you hold a Bachelor's/Graduate's degree in electronics or IT;
  • experience in message switching and IT networks is a key asset;
  • you have good command of English and Dutch or French;
  • you have strong learning capabilities;
  • you are prepared to take training courses;
  • you have no problem with a flexible work schedule (e.g. watch service, working in shifts);
  • you have a great sense of responsibility and a keen eye for detail;
  • you have strong problem-solving capabilities and you can be counted on in high-stress situations;
  • you are a team player with good social skills.
